TRAINING

We are approved and licensed by the South African Civil Aviation Authority as a training school ATO # 110.

Applications include ab-initio training, advanced training, conversion to type, night and instrument ratings, game capture ratings, underslung load ratings, instructor rating and simulator training.

Hire and fly is available to in-house PPL graduates and we undertake weekend excursions to various destinations which incorporate advanced training i.e. high altitude flying in the Drakensburg mountains up to 10 000ft pa.

Training is our bread and butter activity", and we run one of the largest training schools for helicopter pilots in the country.

We offer ab-initio training on the Robinson R22 (2 seater) and R44 (4 seater) helicopters. Robinson helicopters are the most widely used helicopters in the world for training.

The R44 is the best selling helicopter in the world.

As we are agents for Robinson helicopters many of our graduates have achieved owning their own helicopter through us.

Minimum requirements for a Private Pilots Licence are:

A minimum age of 17 years old.

Passing of an aviation medical.

Completing a minimum of 50 hours training, of which 15 hours must be as pilot in command. (Some of these hours may be done in our Frasca flight training device saving you thousands of Rand)

The official syllabus is laid down by the South African Civil Aviation Authority and comprises 32 exercises.

Our required standard is competency in all of the 32 exercises which make up the Hover Dynamics syllabus. All examinations are done in house using computer based testing platforms.

All our full time instructors are designated examiners for the private pilot skills test.

Most of our graduates go on to speciality training such as night and mountain flying or conversion to other types of helicopters.

In 18 years, Hover Dynamics has flown more than 30 000 hours for ab-initio training or hire and fly on R22 and R44 helicopters.

Hover Dynamics has a very active safety program which includes regular recurrent training for its instructors. We also sponsor and present the Robinson safety course in conjunction with Tim Tucker, Robinson's chief instructor.

Tim Tucker is an ex Vietnam pilot with more than 18000 hours of experience, he is also the past recipient if the HAI's instructor of the year award.
